Michael P. Marsh is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and a civil rights advocate, who has been with Toledo Fair Housing Center since 1997 and the Northwest Ohio Development Agency (NODA) since 1998. As Vice President of Development and Public Relations, Mr. Marsh is in charge of fund raising, public relations and educational outreach activities for the Center and NODA.
An alumnus of Bowling Green State University, Mr. Marsh earned a Master of Arts degree in American Culture Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism (cum laude). He taught for five years in Bowling Green State University’s Ethnic Studies Department, and he developed a cultural diversity training seminar, which he has conducted for organizations, such as the Toledo Board of Realtors.
Mr. Marsh has been successful in building relationships with local, state and national media, resulting in extensive coverage of fair housing issues and has appeared on numerous radio and television programs. He has planned successful news conferences for organizations such as the Ohio Fair Housing Congress, and has written news releases and articles for publications such as the Toledo Realtor. He has been interviewed for articles in local, state and national publications.
In a fund raising capacity, Mr. Marsh has been the successful author or co-author of grants that have brought over $3 million to the Center and NODA. He also began an annual fund raising event for the Center in 1998. These events have raised over $180,000 for the victims of housing discrimination. Mr. Marsh created the Friends of Fair Housing member/donor program for the Center, which, to date, has raised over $50,000 for the victims of housing discrimination.
Active in the community, Mr. Marsh is a graduate of the Community Leadership Toledo Class of 2001. He serves on the National Fair Housing Alliance Resource Development Committee, Toledo Board of Realtors’ Affordable Housing and Cultural Diversity Committee, the State of the State Conference on Equity, Diversity, and Opportunity Planning Committee, University of Toledo’s Urban Affairs Center Advisory Committee, Lucas County Housing Advisory Council, Wood County Housing Advisory Council, and the Toledo-Lucas County Housing Fund (Secretary). He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is active in the local chapter, having served as Chapter President in 2004. He also serves as a Trustee of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments and is a member of the Toledo Metropolitan Smart Growth Partnership.
Mr. Marsh received the 20 Under 40 Leadership Award in 2005. Finally, he has attended and presented at a number of conferences at the local, state and national levels
