Stephen S. Francis

Stephen Francis is Unit Manager of Diversity Relations within the Company Services Division at Honda of America Mfg., Inc. He oversees Honda’s cross-functional diversity management initiatives, diversity outreach efforts and supports procurement diversity and workforce diversity initiatives.

In his role as cross-functional diversity leader for Honda of America, he also helps coordinate Honda diversity efforts across North America for its manufacturing, sales and research and development companies in the areas of minority recruitment, diversity outreach, planning and strategy development.

Francis joined Honda of America in 1995 as an attorney in the Legal Department providing services in the areas of worker’s compensation law, benefits, medical and disability programs. He also helped to coordinate legal services for Honda of South Carolina Mfg.

Named senior assistant counsel in 1998, his responsibilities were expanded to include leadership roles on projects to develop Honda’s Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance program and the Medically Inactive Transition and Integrated Disability Management programs.

In addition to his responsibilities at Honda of America, Francis is a member of the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation Board, the Directions for Youth and Families Board of Directors, Morehouse College Alumni Association and a member of the Second Baptist Church Board of Deacons. Francis also is an active volunteer with the American Heart Association.

Prior to joining Honda of America, Francis was a senior attorney for BANC ONE Corporation from 1991 to 1995. From 1989 to 1991, he served as chief legal counsel for the Ohio Department of Development. During 1987 to1989, he served as an administrative law judge with the Ohio Public Utilities Commission.

Francis is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Law and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

Francis and his wife, Carolyn, live in Dublin, Ohio. They have two sons, Stephen, Jr. and John.
