Audrey L. Norman Turner

Audrey L. Norman Turner is a native of Columbus, Ohio; however, she has resided in Dayton since 1974. She earned her BS degree from Central State University, and her Master’s Degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Audrey’s career endeavors have been in the field of education. She taught in the Columbus Public Schools, served as Assistant Director of Upward Bound at Ohio Wesleyan University, and from 1974 until her retirement in July, 2000, held various administrative positions at Central State University which included: Coordinator of Counseling and New Student Orientation, Director of Indispensable Skills Program-AIDP, Associate Dean of Students, Director of Central State University-West, and Director of Alumni Affairs. She is currently a project consultant with the Dayton Dialogue on Race Relations initiative whose mission is to work toward eradicating racism in the Miami Valley through reconciliation, understanding, and action.

Audrey has spoken at numerous public schools, governmental and social service agencies throughout the state. For over ten years, she hosted the weekly-televised public affairs program, “Central State Reports.” She currently hosts a program on GATV entitled “The Dayton Dialogue on Race Relations.” She has served as a consultant to the Cincinnati Public Schools, Dayton Public Schools, Western Ohio Education Association, Dayton Urban League, Dayton Correctional Institution, Montgomery County Human Services Department, Federal Women’s Program, Wright State University, and the U.S. Army Education Centers in Germany, Italy, and Belgium.

She is listed in Outstanding Women of America, Who’s Who in the Midwest, was featured in the Dayton/Cincinnati Success Guide, awarded the Paul Laurence Dunbar Humanitarian Award by the City of Dayton, the Nefertiti Award by the Dayton Section of SCLC, and the Bethune Achiever’s Award by the National Council of Negro Women. She was selected Outstanding Alumnus of the Year by the Central State University Dayton Alumni Chapter, recognized as the Educator of the Year at the 12th Annual Ohio Black Expo, and was inducted into the Central State University Alumni Achievement Hall of Fame.

Currently Audrey serves on the Board of Directors for the YWCA of Dayton and Highrise, Inc., the Community Advisory Board of the Montgomery County Pre-Release Program, and the Parity, Inc. Steering Committee. She holds membership in Delta Kappa Pi Educational Honor Society, the Central State University Alumni Association, the National Council of Negro Women, Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., NAACP-Dayton Branch, and the Dayton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., She is a member of Omega Baptist Church.

She is married to Robert A. Turner, Jr., and has three adult sons, Robert, Christopher, and Yemane’.
