Matthew D. Miko

Matthew D. Miko currently serves as Director of Enforcement and Chief Legal Counsel for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the agency responsible for the enforcement of the state laws prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing, credit and places of public accommodation.  Among other things, Mr. Miko oversees Human Resources, the Office of Special Investigations and the Fair Housing Enforcement Unit.

Mr. Miko previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Ohio Attorney from 1997 through 2001, and also as an Assistant State Solicitor in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office from 2000 through 2001.

During Mr. Miko’s tenure at the Commission, he has served as a Speaker, Panelist, Presenter and Trainer for numerous organizations and at statewide forums and conferences including: Know Your Rights Hearing on Predatory Mortgage Lending and Housing Discrimination (Columbus); EEO Law Conference (Columbus); EEOC Technical Assistance Program Seminar (Cincinnati); Multiple Perspectives on Access, Inclusion & Disability (Columbus); Seventh Annual State of the State Conference (Cincinnati); Discrimination in the Workplace (Zanesville) and Department of Administrative Services, Equal Opportunity Division’s EEO Officers Retreat (Lewis Center, Ohio.) In addition, he has appeared on television and radio talk shows including Columbus Tapestry Television Station and Cincinnati Radio Stations (WDBZ) 1230 AM and (WIZF) 100.9 FM.

Among Mr. Miko’s distinguished honors and awards are Ohio Attorney General’s Best Appellate Brief Award (2000); Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Civil Rights Section Chief’s Award (2000) and Ohio Civil Rights Commission’s Commitment to Excellence Award (2001).

Mr. Miko attended the Ohio State University where he received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1994 and his Juris Doctorate in 1997.
