Dr. John C. "Turk" Logan, Jr.

Dr. John C. "Turk" Logan, Jr. is a 30 year veteran of radio and television. As "The Father of the Dayton Sound" "Turk" Logan brought such groups as The Ohio Players, Zapp featuring Roger, Sunn, Dayton, Heatwave, Lakeside, Slave and Platypus to national and international fame and success. Quite literally, the sound that "Turk" Logan created at the legendary WDAO-FM changed the sound of "funk" music forever.

MOST IMPORTANT, "Turk" Logan became nationally known for his strong stand against obscenity in music, especially lyrics which extolled and glamorized violence and overt sexuality. He courageously BANNED such music from the airwaves of WDAO-FM, and helped lead others to the same decision.

Dr. Logan was the Prime Consultant in the 2.5 million dollar re-design and renovation of the Cosby Center, which resulted in a state-of-the-art radio/TV studio area, a digital music recording studio, as well as classroom areas for Communication students.

Additionally, the “Urban/Jazz” format he originally created for WLAB-FM has been implemented successfully at WCSU-FM, and has been imitated nationally. The “Urban/Jazz” format at WCSU-FM has fostered much success for the station and has dramatically increased listenership for WCSU – FM.
