Don G. Black

Don G. Black is a native of Chicago, Ill. He spent his formative years of education in both the Chicago and Dayton Public School systems. In the early 1960's he moved to Dayton and enrolled at Roosevelt High School where he graduated in 1963. He later continued his advanced education at Sinclair Community College and Wright State University with emphasis in Mass Communications and Marketing.

In October 1970, after spending several years of employment in the private sector, he began his journey in the world of private small business enterprise.  He founded his first business venture, Don Black Associates Photography & Public Relations, Inc. The company specialized in commercial photographic and multicultural communications.  In 1977, the name of the company was changed to Multi-Western Public Relations/ Marketing, Inc., to reflect the changing trends in the communications field directed toward diverse markets.

In 1993, a new dimension emerged as MWC Publishing, Inc., publisher of the Dayton Weekly News was founded.  The newspaper was founded by Don Black and his son Donerik Black.  The Dayton Weekly News is a weekly news publication designed to reflect the editorial news interest of people of African American decent. Since the newspaper's founding in 1993, it reaches thousands of readers throughout the Dayton and Miami Valley region.

With over three decades of experience relating to business creation and development, Don Black continues to forge ahead as an active businessperson and community activist. Over the years Don Black has served the community by serving on a wide range of nonprofit boards and community advisory committees. His active participation includes nine years as director of the Dayton Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration activities. As an active community volunteer, he has been the recipient of several community awards and citations. His many awards include: Who’s Who in Marketing; Who’s Who Among African Americans; Who’s Who in Business; Parity’s Top Ten African American Males; WROU/WRNB Black Achiever Award; Journalist of the Year Award; MLK President’s Award; National Business League Community Service Award; Peace Bridge Award; Ohio Purchasing Council Hall of Fame Award; and other awards.

Don G. Black is married to the former Glenda J. Camp—together they are the parents of two adult children, Donerik Black, of Dayton, and Shronda J. Black, of Atlanta, Ga., and have one grandaughter, Taylor R. Black.
