Margaret Evelyn Peters

Margaret received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees, as well as her Supervisor’s Certificate, from the University of Dayton. From 1963-1993 she taught in the Dayton Public Schools and served as Black History Resource Teacher for the district. She was also an instructor at area universities. She served as president of the minority caucus of the Dayton Education Association and as editor of the state caucus newsletter. Since retiring, she has served as president of the retired teachers association and as a member of the Ohio Department of Education’s Social Studies Curriculum Writing Team. Her writings include The Ebony Book of Black Achievement, which was included in the 1994 issue of the American Library Association’s Coretta Scott King Awards Book,  and Dayton’s African American Heritage. Active in her community, she tutors at Zion Baptist Church, serves on the boards of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Muse Machine, and co-chairs the Martin Luther King, Jr. School Program. Her honors include the Dr. Carter G. Woodson Award from the National Education Association, the Excellence in Teaching Award for the Midwest Region from the National Council of Negro Women, and inclusion in the Inventing Flight Walk of Fame.
