The Leadership Journey—An Evening with Dr. Sundaram Narayanan
Provost, Wright State University

Dr. Sundaram Narayanan became Wright State University provost in March 2013 after 18 years of distinguished services at the university.  Narayanan came to Wright State as an assistant engineering professor and served as chair of the Department of Biomedical, Industrial and Human Factors Engineering for nine years.  He was later appointed executive director of the Wright State Research Institute and then named dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, serving both positions concurrently.  Under Narayanan’s tenure as dean, the engineering and computer science college experienced its highest enrollment in its history; Narayanan was also instrumental in creating and directing the Wright State Research Institute with annual research awards of more than $20 million within five years.

A first-generation college student from India, Dr. Narayanan obtained his master’s degree from the University of Alabama and doctoral degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in industrial and systems engineering.

The Asian American Council of Greater Dayton sponsored a community conversation about current issues that affect our local Asian American communities. Anyone interested in Asian American Issues was invited with a free lunch, followed by cozy conversations about:

• Strengthening Asian American Communities through Advocacy
• Health & Social Disparities in Asian American Communities
• Preserving Our Heritage - Asian Cultural Festival
• Impact of Immigration Reform in Asian American Communities

This community conversations werre organized by Jenny Couse, Dayton Regional Coordinator of the Health Through Action (HTA) Project. HTA and the local conversation are funded by a Kellogg Foundation grant to the Ohio Asian American Health Coalition (Michael Byun, Chair). The program began with lunch at Noon and continues to 4:00 pm. at the Millet Hall Atrium, 1st Floor, Wright State University. This Community Conversations are the first step of its kind by the Asian American Council, which is moving to a higher level in fulfilling our mission and achieving our goals.
