Our Mission
The Asian American Council,
Dayton, Ohio, works to promote full participation in democratic processes,
develop awareness and appreciation of the diversity of Asian American Cultures
and the roles of Asian Americans in American history, and further the goals of
member organizations, including such a goal of improving Asian American's well
being and quality of life through advocacy, education and access to quality
services.
Our Goals

Support federal, state, and
local legislation that protects the civil rights of all U.S. residents.

Develop and implement
strategies that promote the full participation in democratic processes:
A. Discourage the use of negative, harmful or
offensive stereotypes.
B. Promote conditions which reduce discriminatory
behaviors.

Support the development of knowledge and leadership skills among youth to help prepare them in areas
such as conflict resolution, multicultural awareness and appreciation,
etc.

Promote awareness and
appreciation of the diversity of Asian American cultures and the roles of
Asian Americans in
American history.

Promote activities that support
our common interests (such as participating international festivals, joining
Dayton’s March on the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, conducting or
sponsoring mathematics competitions or essay contests, etc.)

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee consists of
one representative of each Sponsoring Organization, plus several Individual
Members who are elected, to represent all Individual Members on the Executive
Committee.
The Sponsoring Organization
representatives who are now serving on the Executive Committee are: Khurshid
Ahmad, American Indo Pak Cultural Association; Munsup Seoh, Dayton Area Korean Association;
April Denofsky,
Dayton Association of Chinese Americans; Ron Katsuyama, Japanese American
Citizens League; Vilma Helms, Philippine American Society of Greater Dayton; and
Darshan Sehbi, Sikh Society of Greater Dayton, Quang Pham, Vietnamese
Association of the Grater Dayton.
The four Individual Members now
serving on the Executive Committee are Ramesh Srivastava, Ed Stsnek, Juanita Wehrle-Einhorn, and Bob Wehrle-Einhorn.
Staff members who are eligible by
virtue to attend the Executive Committee meetings are: Betty Lacey, Director of
AAYCD; Jenny Couse, Dayton
Regional Director of HTA Initiatives of OAAHC program, and Anh-Thu Nguyen,
Administrative Assistant. These staff members are
allowed to participate actively in discussions, but have no rights to vote.
Representatives from funding
agencies: TBA. These people are invited to attend the Executive Committee
meetings and are allowed to participate actively in discussions, but have no
rights to vote.
The Executive Committee selects the
AAC-Dayton officers among themselves. The AAC-Dayton officers for 2009-2010
fiscal year are listed above:
The Executive Committee &
Staff Members
meets at
2:00 pm
on the third Saturday of every month
in 240 MM (Mathematical and Microbiological Sciences Building) at Wright State
University;
and AAC welcomes anyone who is interested in AAC's Missions and Goals.
The meetings are open to the public and would last about two hours each time.
